EFT combines modern psychological understanding with the ancient wisdom of acupressure and has an increasing wealth of evidence for its effectiveness. It involves gently tapping or holding points on the face and body while gently exploring an issue.
Some clients like to talk about what’s bothering them, others prefer to keep it private — tapping works either way.
It is a tool that connects mind, body and spirit in a way that rewires unhelpful responses and brings relief to a wide range of issues.
A presenting issue may bring up emotions but often isn't the cause - it may be a conduit to specific moments in the past when you felt alone or powerless and expectations were violated, and which your subconscious has tagged as a threat. Each similar sensory experience in our lives triggers a reaction and compounds the intensity until we interrupt this response pattern with something effective like tapping.
I have experienced this first hand multiple times, one example being a huge reduction in rage at my teenage son after working on a childhood memory that appeared to have nothing in common with the current situation, but my nervous system perceived fundamental similarities such as feeling disregarded. My threat response (fight/flight) was therefore completely disproportionate. EFT not only enabled me to make this link but to 'disarm' the threat and transform my reaction effortlessly, and consequently my relationship with my child.
